13 Days Uganda and Rwanda safari

This safari will begin and ends in Kampala. This breathtaking safari will begin by visiting the splendid Murchison falls for a game drive and a boat cruise up to the bottom of the falls. And then continue to Kibale National Park for Chimpanzee tracking and other primates as the park houses over 13 species of primates, then from here transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park for chimpanzee tracking and a boat cruise on the kazinga channel. Then you will proceed to Bwindi impenetrable National Park for Gorilla tracking the most interesting activities on earth takes about 2-6 hours in the jungle. After cross the boarder to Rwanda for the second gorilla tracking in the volcano, visit the Dian fossy graveyard and later transfer to your hotel/lodge or airport for your departure flight

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe International Airport
Upon your arrival at Entebbe international airport, you will be warmly welcomed and greeted by Maranatha tour guide/drive that will then brief you and transfer you to your Hotel/lodge in Kampala. Overnight at Sheraton Hotel (luxury) /Cassia Lodge (midrange)/The Lodge (budget)

Day 2: transfer to Murchison Falls National Park
Have breakfast and then after transfer to northwards to Murchison falls national park via Budongo forest, the drive to the park takes about 5-6 hours on a clear day arriving in the afternoon. On the way you will get good insight on the Ugandan way of life. The first stop over will be made at Masindi hotel for lunch for at least one hour. Then continue to the park stopping at the top of the falls which is an incredible sight. Here the Nile, the longest river in the world, is forced through a narrow gap in the rock (only 7 meters wide), before ferociously plunging down  43 meters. After this fantastic view continues on with the journey up to the park headquarters, you will then take a ferry to reach Paraa Safari Lodge. Game viewing on the way is very good; look out for hippos, and many other animals, seen grazing on the banks of the river. Arrive at the lodge in time for relaxation. Day 3: Game Drive and Launch Cruise

The morning is followed by a hearty breakfast, then after you will proceed to the northern part of the park for a morning game drive. At the park expect to come a cross various species of animals to mention some include herds of Elephants, Buffaloes, various species of antelopes, warthogs Lions, and a variety of bird species to mention but a few. After this wonderful time a slow drive will be made back to the lodge for a leisure and lunch, then in the afternoon proceed for a two-hour launch cruise up to the base of the mighty Murchison falls for more views of various species of wildlife, watch the amazing hippos, crocodiles, water birds along the river banks. Day 4: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

Have breakfast, and then after transfer to kibale forest national park with a packed lunch. The journey from Murchison to Kibale takes about 7-8 hours drive on a clear day. We will pass close to Lake Albert which has a fantastic view on the top of the Albert rift. We will arrive in Fort portal late afternoon; check in into your booked accommodation for relaxation as you’re waiting for dinner and an overnight. Day 5: Chimpanzee tracking and Swamp walk
Have a morning Breakfast, and then after assemble for a short briefing about chimp tracking, then after we shall proceed into the Forest to begin the activity. Chimp tracking is the most done activity at the park as they are fabulous fan to watch in the fruitful trees. The activity is unpredictable as it may take half day or more searching for chimpanzees as it depends on where they spent the last night. A reasonable degree of fitness is required. Not only chimps but others primates such as the black and white colobus monkeys, phoestes, Red-Colobus, Blues, Red-tailed and grey cheeked Mangabey will be seen swinging through the dense forest and various species of birds, butterflies and many other small insects. Informative information will be given not only to chimps but also to other forest flora and fauna to ensure that your walk is enjoyable. Ounce gorillas are found you strictly allowed staying with them for a period of only one hour. Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. After take a visit to Bigodi swamp eco tourism site an incredible site, bird lovers are rewarded a lot as this places is known as a birder paradise. Bird species like the Shining Blue Kingfisher, Blue Throated Roller and other rare species and also find the fruiting trees, various species of birds can also be seen. Day 6: Head to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will enter the Park via the Northern crater Area with a fantastic view, lakes and scenery up to the park. Queen Elizabeth National Park is gifted by a wide variety of flora and fauna. Arrive at the park in time for lunch and later in the evening go for a game drive in the kasenyi area of the park, animals expected to come across include elephants, lions, hippos, buffaloes, Uganda Kobs, baboons and birds. Have a slow drive back to the lodge for Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge (luxury)/Katara Lodge /Ihamba Safari Lodge (midrange) /Engazi lodge (budget)

Day 7: Chimpanzee tracking and Launch cruise

After breakfast assemble for a short briefing about the dos and don’ts while with the chimps, after proceed to Kyambura Gorge area of the park for chimp tracking one of the most memorable moments as chimps are so interesting to watch and regarded the closet relative of man. Chimp tracking time is unpredictable as it may take between 2-6 hours depending on their movements. Ounce there found utilize the one hour you’re allowed to stay with them. Take photos, as well as listening to educative information from the guides. Other primate species expected to see include the Black and white Colobus monkeys and other animals like antelopes, hyenas, Lion and many others in the middle of savanna grassland. Have a morning breakfast and then embark on a journey to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Southern sector of Queen Elizabeth known as Ishasha, this place is famously known for its tree climbing lions. Have lunch en route before ascending to bwindi impenetrable forest one of the two parks in Uganda that houses the few remaining mountain gorillas in the world and it’s the only park where gorillas and chimp can be found in the same setting. Day 9: Gorilla Tracking
Wake up early in the morning for a vigorous breakfast to get energy needed for gorilla tracking. Together with your guide Report to the ranger station at 08.00 am for a short briefing about gorilla tracking. After the guides will take you through the forest to begin tracking activity. Gorilla tracking is unpredictable as it may take between 1-6 hours depending on where they spent the last night, so a reasonable degree of fitness is required as well as a sturdy pair of walking shoes. Day 10: Cross the boarder to Rwanda and Head to Ruhengeri

After breakfast, you will cross the Uganda-Rwanda border where you will continue through the foothills of the volcanoes that make up Volcanoes National Park in Northern Rwanda. Volcanoes national park is known for its gorilla tracking and one of the most done activities at the park. Day 11: Gorilla Tracking
After breakfast, you will be escorted by a ranger guide to the park headquarters at 08:00hours for a short briefing about the dos and don’ts while with gorillas and also get a signed to the group booked for. After the briefing from the authorities of the park, set off into the rain tropical forest to begin the activity, Gorilla tracking is regarded as the most interesting activity on earth. Gorilla tracking time is unpredictable as it may take between 3-8 as it depends on where they spent the last night. And it may involve passing through muddy and thick forest, so it is advisable to move with tracking gears like packed lunch and bottled water, long khaki or jean trousers, non flash cameras, rain gear, strong boots among others. Ounce gorillas are found you will forget all the hardness you’ve gone through and start enjoying watching them as they are doing their daily activities such as feeding playing, making beds among others and you strictly allowed staying with gorillas for only one hour while observing then, taking photos. Day 12: Visit at the Dian Fossey Grave
Wake up very early in the morning for a heavy breakfast, then after you will be driven to Gisenyi and trek to Dian Fossey’s grave. Dian fossy was a prominent primatologist who studied the behaviors of these giant gorillas for a period of about 20 years. He made Rwanda very popular because her works and that’s why Rwanda is now very popular because these primate species. Her work came to an end when she was killed by poachers whom she has made her self unpopular. After the hike return back to the lodge for lunch. The evening is reserved for leisure at the lodge. Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay at luxury Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge, Midrange: Le Bombou Lodge/La Palme Hotel, Budget: Kinigi Guest House.

Day 13: Kigali city tour and departure
Wake up for a hearty breakfast and then later you will be driven to Kigali. Visit some interesting places like the Kigali memorial sites, cultural sites, marketing centre along side other interesting places in Kigali city, enjoy lunch in the Kigali after you will be transferred to your preferred hotel or transfer you to the airport in time meet your departure flight back home.
