Have you heard of some of the annual tourism events that take place in Rwanda, East Africa’s smallest country? Well for the last ten years, the country has been arranging some activities among which include cultural ceremonies and those intended to promote Rwanda safaris. However, the country hasn’t been exploiting this opportunity to market its unique adventurous activities which a visitor can enjoy. It is this reason that the government has decided to use these events which attract people from different parts of the world to market its tourism fraternities.
Whenever Rwanda is mentioned, many people’s minds think about the mountain gorillas that this country boosts of found in Volcanoes National Park. The country is one of the few countries on earth where the endangered mountain gorillas are found others found in Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo. However, for a best gorilla trekking experience, this “country of a thousand hills” is the best destination because of the ease to encounter the primates in their natural habitats
Presence of the gorillas led to an introduction of an annual ceremony known as “Kwita Izina”. This is a ceremony where the mountain gorillas are named and it has been taking place in the country for the last ten years. Graced by different officials from the government and delegates from various countries including tourism representatives, Kwita Izina takes place every 1st July in Rwanda. It is the most prominent event where young gorillas are collected and given different names which are used throughout their lives.
This year, the government has decided to benefit from this ceremony by marketing its other tourism activities especially those that most visitors are not well conversant with. Delegates will be taken to various sites in the country after the event and they will have an inner look into this country’s beauty and adventure.
Another thrilling event is the gorilla conservation and community exhibition and this attracts people from different countries leading to an increase in the number of Rwanda Safaris. This year, the ceremony is expected to take place alongside other ceremonies like launching of Basumba primary school. There will be other community activities like cleaning of health centers, water reserves and more others. This will enable the visitors to participate in some developmental activities aimed at improving the lives of the local people. Consequently, visitors will be provided with more information about the various tourism fraternities in Rwanda and this in the longrun will lead to an increase in the safaris.
The country has already started preparing for the ceremonies with a few days left. This time, the events are going to be more interesting because of the high number of mountain gorillas to be named.
