However, for the last few years, this country was an underdog when it came to tourism due to a number of reasons. One of them was the genocide which led to deaths as many people lost their lives and there was destruction of property too. During this time, the wild animals were forced to flee to safer places and many of them moved to Uganda and Burundi. This affected the sector negatively to the extent that the country had to start from zero to restore the lost glory.

However, that is past and as you read this, Rwanda has drastically changed the negatives of the past into success by restoring what had been lost. It has improved the tourism sector to an extent of being listed among the leading destinations in Africa. One of the key attractions which has brought the country back to the top is the rare mountain gorillas. With about 900 mountain gorillas left in the world, Rwanda is lucky to among the few countries with these elegant primates and this has favored it by attracting visitors from different countries. Many visitors actually make repeated journeys to this smallest East African county every year just because they can’t have enough of its wonderful nature.

With a wide range of adventurous fraternities combined with intensive marketing backed by the government, Rwanda is to rip more from tourism. The patience the local people exhibited during the hard times is yet to pay off with signs of hope starting to show. You may wonder why at this time but the truth is that though the country earns a lot revenue from the sector, more is expected because the country’s attractions are so unique and this is a competitive advantage over other countries that will lead to an increase in the number of visitors.
